What We’re Looking For: 

Are you a passionate Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) ready to empower students and schools? Here’s what you’ll need to join our team: 
 
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Vision Rehabilitation, or a related field. A Master’s degree in Education of Students with Visual Impairments or a related field is preferred. 
Certification: Colorado Teaching License with an endorsement as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) issued by the Colorado Department of Education (CDE). Certification through the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP) as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist is preferred but not required. 
Additional Requirements: Knowledge of special education laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and familiarity with the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process. CPR certification is preferred. 
Language Proficiency: Bilingual skills preferred but not required. 

 
 
Your Role: 

As a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI), you will play a vital role in supporting students with visual impairments by promoting independence, academic success, and access to the educational environment. Your responsibilities will include: 
 
  • Develop Individualized Plans: Collaborate with IEP teams to create and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) tailored to the unique needs of students with visual impairments. 
  • Provide Specialized Instruction: Deliver instruction in core and expanded core curricula, including Braille literacy, assistive technology, daily living skills, sensory efficiency, and compensatory skills. 
  • Monitor Progress: Collect, analyze, and document data to assess student growth and adjust instructional strategies to ensure that students meet their academic and developmental goals. 
  • Collaborate with Teams: Work closely with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, orientation and mobility specialists, related service providers, and families to ensure students' needs are met in all learning environments. Actively participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary discussions. 
  • Promote Accessibility: Advocate for and implement accommodations, modifications, and assistive technologies that support equitable access to the general education curriculum and learning environments. 
  • Support Transition Goals: Prepare students for post-secondary success by teaching skills such as community navigation, self-advocacy, and the use of adaptive tools for higher education and workplace settings. 
  • Promote Safety and Independence: Develop plans that support students’ safe and confident navigation in school, home, and community environments.
